Triple Screen System

Most "triple screen" indicators sold online blend the three ideas into one combined signal line, which throws away the reason the method works in the first place: each screen answers a different question, and the system only trades when all three answers line up in sequence. Screen 1 reads the tide on a higher timeframe - by default weekly against a daily trading timeframe, both configurable - from the slope of a 13-period weighted moving average, Elder's own choice of trend filter. Screen 2 checks the Force Index, also Elder's own indicator, on the trading timeframe: the system only arms itself when the Force Index has dipped against the tide, a pullback, because that is the one moment the method is actually built to exploit rather than chasing a move already underway. Screen 3 is the entry itself, a stop order set just beyond the high or low of the pullback bar, so the trade only triggers if price genuinely resumes the tide's direction rather than being bought or sold into the pullback - precisely the mistake the book warns against. The exit is the tide itself. The moment Screen 1 no longer agrees with the direction of an open position, the position is closed outright, with no separate target or trailing logic layered on top. An ATR-based protective stop is attached to every entry regardless, so no trade this system takes is ever without one, but the tide turning is what actually ends a winning or losing trade under Elder's original design. This is offered as a faithful, attributed reproduction for study, not a guaranteed edge - Elder himself wrote about it as one trader's disciplined framework, not a mechanical certainty. Notes and limitations - Only one position or one armed stop order is managed at a time. - Screen 2's pullback check and Screen 3's entry price are both re-evaluated only once per new wave-timeframe bar, matching the book's own end-of-bar discipline rather than reacting intrabar. - The exit is the tide flipping - there is no separate profit target. A strong trend can give back an unrealised gain before the tide itself turns and the position is closed. - This is a faithful, attributed study reproduction. Past behaviour of a well-known method is not a promise of future results on any symbol or timeframe pairing.
