STARC Bands
STARC Bands (Stoller AverageRange Channels) plot a channel around price using two independent inputs: a simple moving average of Close for the centre line, and a Wilder-smoothed Average True Range for the band width. The upper band is the centre line plus a multiple of ATR; the lower band is the centre line minus the same multiple. Unlike Bollinger Bands, which derive their width from price's own standard deviation, STARC Bands derive width from volatility measured through true range - a channel that widens and narrows with the market's actual bar-to-bar movement rather than with the moving average's own statistical spread. The centre SMA period and the ATR period are genuinely independent inputs here, matching Stoller's original two-period design (a short centre-line period paired with a longer ATR period is the published convention) rather than forcing both onto a single shared period. Notes and limitations - Needs InpMaPeriod + InpAtrPeriod bars of history before the bands start plotting. - The ATR stage is recomputed across the visible range on every call rather than tracked as a running incremental value, so a chart history reload cannot leave stale smoothing state behind. - This is a volatility channel only - no alerts, no trade signals, no automatic mean-reversion logic.
