Profit Calculation Walkthrough

"$10 a pip on a standard lot" is only true for a narrow slice of symbols: 4/5-digit forex pairs quoted directly in, or easily convertible to, the account currency. The moment a trader touches gold, an index CFD, or a JPY cross, that shortcut quietly stops being true, and the actual profit calculation depends on the symbol's contract size, tick size, tick value, profit-calculation mode, and - when the symbol's profit currency differs from the account currency - a currency conversion leg the terminal applies automatically and does not show. This script does not compute a number and hand it over. It prints every step of the chain the terminal itself uses: digits and point size, tick size and tick value, contract size, the profit-calculation mode (forex/CFD/futures), the profit currency versus the account currency, and then a worked example moving from an entry price to an exit price, showing the arithmetic at each stage. Where the profit and account currencies differ, it says so plainly and explains why a naive contract-size calculation done by hand will not match the terminal's own tick-value-based figure without a manual currency conversion. The point is to make the underlying mechanism inspectable on demand - useful when sizing a position on an unfamiliar symbol, or when a trader's own manual "pips times pip value" spreadsheet disagrees with what MetaTrader actually reports. Notes and limitations - Reads live broker-supplied values (MODE_TICKVALUE, MODE_LOTSIZE, MODE_PROFITCALCMODE, etc.) rather than hardcoding any contract size or conversion rate - these genuinely differ by broker and by symbol, and MODE_TICKVALUE itself moves with the live cross rate whenever the profit currency differs from the account currency. - The "cross-check" line using raw contract size x price difference is denominated in the symbol's PROFIT currency, not necessarily the account currency - the script says this explicitly rather than implying the two figures should match when they will not. - This is an educational/diagnostic tool. It does not place, size, or manage any trade; it only reports the arithmetic for a symbol and trade size the user supplies. - Requires a live quote on the analysed symbol; if MODE_BID reads 0 the script reports this rather than computing against a stale or absent price.
