Leverage Utilisation Report

Account leverage is a broker setting. It tells you the maximum leverage the broker will allow, but says nothing about what you are actually using. A trader with 10,000 equity on a 1:100 account can use that full 1,000,000 in notional exposure, but does not have to. If they have only 100,000 in open positions, their effective leverage is 1:10, far below the broker's limit. Effective leverage is what matters. It reveals how much risk you have taken relative to account size. A portfolio using 1:50 effective leverage is highly aggressive. A portfolio using 1:5 is conservative. The breakdown per symbol shows whether the leverage is concentrated on one name or spread across many. This script calculates the notional value of every open position, sums them, divides by account equity, and reports the result. It also breaks down by symbol, so you see exactly which instruments are consuming the most leverage and which are safe to add to. Notes and limitations - Notional exposure (MQL5) is volume x current price x (tick value / tick size) per position, summed per symbol and for the account. This is the currency amount effectively at risk per symbol, in the account's own currency. - Effective leverage is total notional exposure divided by account equity. It is a snapshot at the moment the script runs. - Pending orders are ignored on both platforms. Only open market positions count. - A position on a symbol whose tick value or tick size cannot be read (not loaded in Market Watch) is skipped and counted separately in the report, rather than silently treated as zero exposure. - Leverage changes constantly as positions are opened, closed and prices move. This report is a snapshot, not a continuous measure. - This script does not modify positions or leverage. It reports only.
