Audio Alert Reader
"Reading alerts aloud" cannot mean literal speech in native MQL4 or MQL5: neither platform has a built-in text-to-speech engine, and this catalogue does not use DLL imports that could reach one. What this EA does instead is honest sonification. It polls a plain-text queue file where each line describes one alert as SEVERITY|TYPE|DIRECTION|free text, classifies it, and plays a short composed sequence of the terminal's own bundled sound files - an intro tone for severity (INFO/WARNING/CRITICAL), a second tone for category (PRICE/NEWS/TRADE/SYSTEM/CUSTOM), and, if a direction is given, a third tone for UP or DOWN. With a little practice a trader can tell "critical trade alert moving down" from "informational price note" without looking at the screen, even though no word of the actual text was spoken. The literal text is never lost: every processed alert also fires the terminal's own Alert() popup, is written to the Experts log via Print(), and scrolls into a small on-chart log so the exact wording is always available to read. Line-position tracking uses a GlobalVariable keyed by symbol and queue filename so a chart restart does not replay the entire file from the start. This EA does not place, modify or manage any orders or positions - it is a pure notification utility, not a trading system. Notes and limitations This is sonification, not text-to-speech - it never reads the free-text part of a line aloud, only the three classification fields. Two structurally different messages sharing the same SEVERITY|TYPE|DIRECTION triple play an identical sound sequence. Playing a sequence blocks briefly (a few hundred milliseconds per segment, bounded by InpGapMs) while the EA thread sleeps between PlaySound calls; this is a deliberate, short, occasional pause for an alert cue, not a per-tick cost, since alert handling runs on the poll timer rather than OnTick. The processed-line watermark is stored in a GlobalVariable, and the terminal auto-deletes GlobalVariableSet entries after roughly four weeks of no access. A chart left idle that long can have its watermark reset and replay older queued lines on the next poll - harmless (alerts are simply re-announced) but worth knowing if the queue file is long-lived. The queue file is read from the ordinary per-terminal sandbox (MQL4\Files\ or MQL5\Files\), not the shared common folder, so a writer running in a different terminal instance on the same machine cannot feed this panel without switching both sides to FILE_COMMON - which this EA does not use.
